Advocate Tree

With ‘The Advocate Tree’, a first growth Coast Redwood in Nisene Marks State Park

The idea for this fieldbook was born in 1993, while hand coloring copies of a fireweed plant with my kids around the kitchen table in a cabin at Lake Tahoe.  Soon I incorporated this exercise on field trips with my Biology students. In 2010,  I retired after 34 years of classroom biology teaching.  A couple of years later after carrying the idea in my mind on hundreds of hikes with my kids and students, I was finally able to do the research, photography and writing required to create this book. It has been my life long goal to strengthen the human connection with nature.

I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to pop me a note:
